General Anxiety Disorder is a condition which causes you to feel anxious with regard to wide ranging issues and situations rather than one specific event. When one anxiety causing issue disappears another pops-up much like whac-a-mole at the fairground.

Panic disorder is characterised by sudden attacks for fear and panic. Panic is the most severe form of anxiety. You might try and avoid situations which previously resulted in a panic attack.

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition which also causes anxiety. Intrusive thoughts, avoidance behaviours, negative alterations in cognitions and moods and hyperarousal symptoms are common.

Hello my name is Matthew Alderton. I trained for 7 years at The Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education in Paddington London to become a Counsellor and psychotherapist. I am a Psychotherapist accredited by The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). This is the leading evidence based treatment for PTSD.I specialise in the treatment of PTSD, trauma, trauma associated tinnitus and associated conditions.

I work in a holistic way using an integrated psychotherapeutic approach. This includes Psychotherapy, Body Psychotherapy, and Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

Anxiety Therapy Approaches

EMDR Therapy

EMDR Therapy is the leading evidence based treatment for PTSD. We usually use EMDR therapy in conjunction with Psychotherapy. For a one off standalone trauma it might be used as a stand alone treatment.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy

PTSD caused by trauma is held in the body as well as causing psychological difficulty. Cranio-Sacral Therapy enables you to begin to let go off energy held in the body and the nervous system.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy techniques including creating a safe container for the work, active listening and holding enable you to process your trauma in a safe environment. We might use techniques involving stabilisation, psycho-education and grounding.

Cognitive Processing Therapy

We use CPT for members of the emergency services, armed forces and anyone who is suffering from PTSD symptoms who might benefit from aspects of a CPT approach. CPT incorporates aspects of CBT and is helpful when EMDR is not appropriate.
