Everybody has depressive feelings from time to time and they are a normal part of life. Life is experienced in ups and downs. An up might be a promotion at work and a down might be losing a job. Losing one’s job might result in depressive feelings on a temporary basis. It is when depressive feelings are experienced in the longer term that a person might require professional therapeutic treatment for a depressive disorder.
Depression symptoms are characterised by a depressed mood which lasts longer than two weeks. You might feel more irritable than normal or have difficulty sleeping, fatigue or loss of energy. You might have difficulty functioning in social, educational or occupational settings.

How does depression therapy work?
Our depression therapy uses a number of approaches including:
- Transpersonal psychotherapy
- Acceptance and commitment therapy
- Behavioural activation therapy
We use these approaches in an integrative way depending on the circumstances of each individual. Approaches are underpinned by psychotherapy and behavioural therapy principles. Psychotherapy enables you to process difficulties of loss and anger and understand the root cause of the depression you feel. It also helps you to develop the qualities needed to move out of the depression. Behavioural therapy gives a specific approach to moving out of the depression and engaging with a meaningful life.
Depression therapy would last as long as is needed for you to feel good again. We anticipate your sessions lasting for a minimum of twelve weeks depending on the progress you make.
