Depression therapy provides a safe confidential environment for you to work through your difficulties relating to depression. Depression can be caused by biological, genetic, environmental and psychological factors. Examples could include: neurotransmitter imbalance, changes in brain structure, hormone fluctuation, genetics and trauma.
We all experience depression symptoms sometimes as part of the ebb and flow of life. Life experience can be traumatic and sometime depressing. This is a normal part of living. It is when symptoms carry on for long periods of time that you might need to seek professional depression therapy help.
1 in 6 adults in the UK experiences a mental health difficulty like depression. People experience moderate or severe depression is roughly 16%. Women are more likely than men to have depression and adults between the ages 16 to 29 are at a higher risk than other segments of the population. Unpaid carers and those with a disability are also at higher level of risk than others in society. Depression can be linked to other underlying mental health conditions which might include anxiety, stess, loneliness and trauma.
Our depression therapy is person centred. this means we follow your lead in relation to pertinent things you might want to discuss. We also make practical interventions as part of depression counselling and psychotherapy. These might include suggestions relating to life style, processing trauma with emdr therapy or utilising a specific therapy which might be helpful. These could be acceptance and commitment therapy, behavioural activation or other behavioural therapy.
Many of the clients we see have historical trauma which is contributing to depression symptoms as well as maladaptive coping mechanisms which are keeping the depression going. Sometimes making practical changes and processing historical trauma can be life changing to someone experiencing depression symptoms.
